YOU’LL THANK ME FOR THIS ONE DAY

Categories: Academic

Whilst studying for my DPhil at the University of Sussex, I presented a paper at the Graduate Conference in Political Theory at the University of Warwick that applied a methodical view to philosophical justifications for paternalistic interventions. I have divided the reasons in to benevolent and civic justifications with a collection of different views in each.

Particularly examined is the concept of the future self as effectively being another person with different views and values. Can the future self be considered a different person in respect of judging whether or not an action is self-regarding.

Although examining John Stuart Mill’s principle, the thoughts of John Locke, CL Ten and others are scrutinised.
